40 days in Cambodia

Werner Helbig was out and about in Cambodia in May / June 2018 ... on foot, by scooter, by bus and by TukTuk.

From Phnom Penh and Siem Reap, he and his Cambodian friends explored the closer and wider surroundings of the two cities. For example, he visited the Preah Vihear temple in the north of the country, which until recently was the focus of the armed conflict between Cambodia and Thailand. Battambang with its Bambootrain and its wide travel fields has not yet been developed for tourism. The traces of the tyranny of the Khmer Rouge can be found mainly in the north of Cambodia, but also in Phnom Penh. He discovered unknown Khmer temples from the 10th century on a scooter. Many encounters with young and old, with urban and rural populations were part of the trip.

Furthermore, Werner Helbig brought the organic sand water filter project initiated by Wasserzeichen eV near Siem Reap to a successful conclusion.

The slide show offers numerous insights into a country that is characterized by destructive political power structures as well as by the friendliness of its residents.
