High mountain trekking in Nepal -
in the face of the 8000s
Grandiose landscapes, different vegetation zones, fantastic views ... high mountain trekking in the Kumbu region.
In October 2018 Werner Helbig went on a 13-day trek with friends towards Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Makalu and Cho Oyu. From Kathmandu the flight first went to Lukla, the most dangerous airport in the world. Then in 2 day stages to Namche Bazar. From there the 4 friends and 2 porters hiked into a side valley to Thame at 3900 m with a visit to the Buddhist monastery on the rocky slope with breathtaking views of the 6000 heights opposite. Continue along the slope via Kumjung, Dole, Machermo to Gokyo at 4800m. There it went up to the lateral moraine of the Ngozumba Glacier at the foot of Cho Oyu (8201 m). Nightly ascent to the summit of Gokyo Ri (5400m) with a fascinating panoramic view of four 8000m peaks. The descent went back via Phortse to Tengboche, the Buddhist center of the Kumbu region. The way back to Lukla took place in two strenuous daily stages.
A superlative slide show - from the roof of the world -
so close to heaven!
